About the Tax Bracket Lookup
Tax brackets define the ranges of income taxed at each marginal rate — but only the income within each bracket gets that rate applied, not the full income. This tool lets you look up the current federal income tax brackets for any filing status, see exactly where your income falls, and understand how much of your income is in each bracket.
How to use it
- Select the tax year and filing status.
- Enter your taxable income (after deductions).
- See which bracket you are in and how much income sits in each bracket.
- View your marginal rate, effective rate, and total tax owed.
Formula & methodology
Tax = Σ(each bracket's income portion × that bracket's rate). Only the income above each threshold — not all income — is taxed at the higher rate.
