À propos de Square Footage Calculator

The Square Footage Calculator computes the area of rooms, floors, and spaces in square feet or square meters. Enter dimensions for rectangular, triangular, circular, or irregular spaces and get instant area calculations. Use it for flooring projects, painting estimates, real estate listings, landscaping, and any project where you need precise area measurements.

Comment l'utiliser

  1. Select the room shape (rectangle, triangle, circle, or L-shape).
  2. Enter the dimensions in feet, inches, or meters.
  3. Add multiple rooms or areas to calculate total square footage.
  4. Use the result for material estimates — flooring, paint, tile, etc.

Formule et méthodologie

Rectangle: Area = length * width. Triangle: Area = 0.5 * base * height. Circle: Area = pi * radius^2. L-shape: split into two rectangles, sum both areas. Trapezoid: Area = 0.5 * (a + b) * height. Unit conversion: 1 sq meter = 10.764 sq ft. 1 sq foot = 144 sq inches. Add 10-15% waste for flooring/tile cuts.

Cas d'usage courants

  • Measuring rooms for flooring purchase (hardwood, carpet, tile)
  • Calculating paint needed: 1 gallon covers ~350 sq ft per coat
  • Real estate: computing livable square footage for listings
  • Landscaping: measuring lawn, garden beds, or patio areas
  • Construction: estimating material quantities for subfloor or roofing

Questions fréquentes

Add 10% overage for straight-lay flooring and 15% for diagonal or herringbone patterns to account for cuts, waste, and future repairs. For tile, add 10-15% for straight patterns and 15-20% for diagonal. Always round up to the next full box/carton when ordering. It is better to have leftover material than to run short and face a discontinued product.
In the US, finished square footage typically includes all heated and cooled living space measured from exterior wall to exterior wall. Garages, unfinished basements, and outdoor areas (patios, decks) are usually excluded or listed separately. Measurement standards vary by state and MLS — ANSI Z765-2021 is the national standard, but not universally followed. Always verify measurements independently for major purchases.
